I guess it happens to all of us sooner or later but today after years of hunting I can't find one I shot. Hit it at about 125 yards, it fropped right there and I watched it lie there for a good 5 minutes. In plain sight!! I started to go to it and lost sight of it for maybe 10 seconds. Then saw one walking away which I thought was onother one. I found where it had fallen and a blood patch about the size of a dollar bill. Brite red. Trailed it after about an hour for about 250 yards with very little blood drops about ever 4 to 6 feet then lost all sign. Three of us looked for about 4 hours until a snow storm made us stop. Snowing so hard we could'nt see more than 10 yards in front of us. There are alot of if only's being said tonight but it is all in hind sight. Really hate to loose such a deer or any deer this or any other way and am sick about it. Also it went down hill most of the time but never once laid down. I think we gave it enought time before going after it and really had no chioce as we could see the snow coming. I'm sick about it!!!

Oldgun, Its does not make the pain any better but it happens to everyone sooner or later. You can continue to look and you never know the deer just might live. Its one of those moments when we care but its outside of our control. Just have to make sure we are doing what we have to to reduce those occurrences.
All I can say now is I am sorry and know how you feel.

If you hunt long enough, it does happen. I am very sorry to hear that it happened to you.
