If you haven't shot trad much, I would go with the lower poundage bow. Taking a bit of a risk with someone on the "bay" who is making bows who is relatively unknown, but if the price is right, might not be a bad one to start with! Seems to know something about trad bows though; using horn tip overlays, a flemish string and silk backing. Sort of interesting design work too. If you can get it for less than a Benji, I'd go with it.
All that said, if you haven't shot many trad bows, you should really try to shoot some before buying sight unseen just so you know what you like and what you should look for.

The Javelina was (is and can be) a real nice bow; had one quite some time ago. It is not fast-flight compatible like the hand made longbow above probably is because it does not have reinforced limb tips; but that may not matter to you and, if not, no big deal. I'd be hesitant to spend $100 on it given its age, and not being able to handle it myself to know if the limbs were twisted, if there was any de-lamination or stress cracks, but the guy has pretty good feedback with selling several trad bows. A 'curve at 50 lbs would be a good starter bow for sure and you could do a lot worse.
I've seen a lot of Javelinas on the bay, there will be more. I have wanted one for a while as I actually had one when I was in High School. It was a great shooter.

I don't really know to much about the whole "wood" thing besides the basic stain that I use on my fence. If you haven't been there, go over to Tradgang.com and register. There are A LOT of bowyers over there that are truly nice folks that will answer any question about that and they will not make you feel bad for asking. It is a great trad board with untold amounts of information on traditional gear and shooting. They have a How To forum that you might start in.
