Got this rack finished mounting, when I shot this one I didn' realize he had only one side that was normal. You could see part of his skull on the right side was still part velvet where he couldn't rub. What would cause this and have you seen anything like it?? I think it might have been hit with a car. He was very large deer and was in no way suffering. Thought it was really ugly but then it makes something to talk about. Attachments:

I've seen it a few times over the years. Usually comes from being damaged on a tree limb or being struck on something else early when the antlers were soft and in velvet...and it continued to grow that way...kinda like a bone that isn't set properly. Kind of "rare"! That's what I have always heard.

The white part is part of the skull, it was not covered with hair and seemed the the skull itself was damaged. Do you think it would have grown like this in the years to come? as the skull was deformed. After getting used to it I kind of like it.

Wow..that is unusual...a deformed skull. Probably would NEVER have grown normally.
