I haven't been shooting the recurve long....maybe 6 years since getting back into it. I started with a recurve for the first 3-4 years but then bought an Allen compound and it went from there. Recently , I have been carrying the Compound in the woods and to tell the truth....I don't like it anymore.....not like my recurve First off....the weight I like a heavy bow for shooting but as to carrying it in the woods The last few days I have been right in the back yard....maybe 100 yards away from the door but dragging that compound is just making me weary I know that it is the only sensible choice for this area because there is a very real need to get a deer down in less than 80 yards. Could I do that with the recurve?....sure but not every time So....I am really hating it lately because I don't even have the option of shooting a stick (that I can trust) and when the new one comes , there isn't much chance that I will take to it quick enough to be confident enough to take it hunting before seasons end. It's a hell of a situation .....

Hey BT - have you looked into an excercise prog... Oops I guess I'm writing out loud What I should have said was Have you looked into a lighter compound? there are some really light bare bow compounds out there. Set 'em up with a sight and whisker biscuit and your good to go with a back quiver like the rancho safari mini. I used the mini attached to my regular hunting pack this year and really liked it once I got used to the broadheads being semi-exposed.

Naw It's just the difference in the bows themselves.....1 # compared to 6# for starters Actually that is just one of the drawbacks , it's the sport of the recurve and the feeling of accomplishment that comes from a clean harvest with the recurve that is the biggest lure.

I started out with a simple bow and didn't get all fancy with it until I was well in to my 20s. Fancy has no soul. Fancy only works until the next bow comes out that is more fancy, more features, more speed. I doubt anyone will ever pass down a compound bow as a family keep-sake. Only for use until the money can be earned to buy a newer, better bow. A well crafted traditional bow, on the other hand, with it's beautiful lines and striking wood work and finish, and a properly selected arrow... It may not have a soul of its own but it certainly stirs the soul of its owner! The shots are earned, not given away by technological advances, just as past archers have had to earn for centuries. It has heritage, and you can't buy that or design it in some lab. A good shot with a recurve or longbow can make an entire day! It reflects not only the function of the bow, but also that of the honed skill of the shooter! A bad shot with a compound means a new sight, new rest, retune, wrong arrow, wrong pin, new release, new bow... I submit that there is a difference, and you have found it!

I wanted to hunt with my dad's recurve this year ... then the reality of life set in .... I don't have that much time. Maybe when I don't have two jobs at 90/hrs per week in the summer. Have to admit there is something about the simplicity of a stick bow that is thought provoking.

Fortunately...I am pats that ....for now I used to put mine in the truck and stump shoot at lunch time. A few arrows with judo points and by summers end your ready to go

Yeh - I know - the way the candle gets burned during the summer I thank God he didn't make the day any loonnggeerr; i would just run out of candle. Winter allows me to recharge the batteries and slow down and have fun. In a year or two things should stabalize to where I can have more time. Actually with a rugrat and one on the way I'm gonna have to make more time starting right now.

The kids killed 5 years of hunting for me when they came along. Would have been 3 years but the second one extended that 2 more years. Gotta help mom with infants....they are a handful and there is no way I could do it by myself so didn't see why I would expect that she could.
