I hope you don't mind a gun pic...this is my 11-year-old's (Caleb) first deer taken this very evening. Good size, mature doe for Florida. Some day I'll have him bowhunting. Anyway, I think he is off to a good start...he performed flawlessly and I am a very proud dad.

Alright Red! Congrats on the boy's first. I'm sure you are training him well, and we'll be seeing some archery pics in the future. I don't think I know anybody who started out with a bow at that age. Congrats again. Oh yeah, and what Doc said.

Thanks all. H&R Handi-Rifle in 7.62X39. It does have a muzzlebrake. I had it made up specifically with the kids in mind. Very little noticeable recoil, but for some reason it really hammers deer using Winchester 123 gr. pointed soft points. My 15-year-old took 2 deer and a hog, I've taken 2 deer and 4 hogs and now Caleb took his...tracking distance on all combined is about 70 yards. They usually drop like a box of anvils. Single shot with a Nikon ProStaff fixed 4x. If there is an easier gun for kids to understand and use safely I am unaware of it.

What load are you using? I have an assault version, that might have to come out one year.

My cousin found these rounds at a dick's in PA for 5 bucks a box. I bought 5 boxes...would have bought 20 if they would have had them. Great performance.
