I just sent this PM to BT but I'm also curious to what yall think,
Hey BT you have helped me out so very much over the last couple years As you know I have just took up Trad hunting. and let me tell you I love it But I'm just really concerned on what broad head to use. With my compound it is easy Spitfires!!! But I just don't know with my recurve??? I'm not sure of what fps I'm putting out but like I told you before. It is a 60# Browning Fire drake. I draw about 28 inches and Im shooting easton arrows xx75 superlite 2314 cut at 30 inches . With a 100 grain head. I currently have the Original Magnus broadheads and the Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts. I have been reading a lot of yall's posts about the Silver Flames they seem very amazing. Do you think that I should go with those??? All I want is a BH that is gonna give me exellent penetration and good arrow flight. Thanks for your help in advance....oh yeah and one more thing, Is it also a good idea to go with a heavier tip than 100 grain. That is just usually what I would shoot out of my compound and so thats what i automatically choose.

I'll retract the suggestion on my PM based on the arrow. I would look at 135 - 150 grain head weight. I would look at the silver flame first if price is no object. I would look at the Zwickey Eskimo if price were a factor.

Why is that BT?? Don't get me wrong I believe you and I'm gonna go with that weight. I was just wondering what logic or theory supports your response. Just for my own personal knowledge on this whole trad thing I'm trying to figure out

Just for my own personal knowledge on this whole trad thing I'm trying to figure out I have shot the same shafts as you are shooting and the FOC that worked best was at 135 and 150. Over 150 showed no performance changes other than negative elevation changes. Under 135 showed some losses in the arrows ability to be forgiving...or at least as forgiving. Shooting around a riser has nothing in similarity with a bow that shoots through it. While a stiff arrow can be tuned and can fly well out of a shoot through.....a weaker shaft will work better than a stiffer shaft n a stick bow. At least...that is to say...for me.

I like the Zwickey heads for mine since Simmons bit the dust.

I like the Zwickey heads for mine since Simmons bit the dust. Simmons is back in business under new ownership. The web site is being fixed and it may be awhile before everything is back on line but they are back. That said..the razor shark will not be making a return....at least no time soon. Those heads were made by another factory for Simmons and the new owner has no interest in pursuing that relationship.

OK so all in all....lets say that money is not an issue....lets pretend that I'm a GOZILLIANAIR ;D My best bet would be the 150 grain Silver Flames....Would that be a correct assumption. Sorry for all the dumb questions guys But I am just really getting into trad hunting and just wanna maximize effectivness, plus its nice belonging to a site with individuals as sharp as yall

I actually looked into buying it and talked to the owner, but I couldn't see it as being feasible with the economy the way it was then. Too bad about the Razorshark though. It was their best head IMO. Maybe at least they will keep the 100 grain Landshark in the lineup.

You might also want to look into some of the broadheads from Alaska Bowhunting Supply. They have plenty of weights to choose from. I have done a lot of shooting since I have been home, and feel comfortable enough to take my longbow out, and will be using their 200gr Massai heads, on the front of a Grizzly Stick Alaskan arrow. This setup works very well with my bow, and really sinks the arrows deep.
