The Woodsman head did fine...I nearly blew it with a head on and quartering to shot
(I swear to God!...I will never ever be Mr. Cool under pressure )
Greg called me just after I had gotten seated under a huge Maple.
I was talking away for awhile and never heard what had to be right nearby...walking toward me.
Thankfully....Greg ended the conversation when he did.
I was in the process of leaning to the side (to get the phone back in my pocket) when I heard a very small snap.
I always turn slow...even when I think it's a squirrel...so as I turn...he doesn't see me...but I see him
The 4pt. was nose down on the apple drag that I had walked in and he was walking very very slowly toward me from behind the tree.
As he passed (4' away) I knew he was going to bust me any second....the wind was to my back and he was going to get a big wake up call as soon as he got in front of me
Now (of course) I cant let anything walk ;D
I am already bow arm out and draw arm tense and he is hard quartering pass me at about 3' so I draw....and he spins on his front legs...whipping his back legs behind him.
I thought (I really did) he was going to charge me...and maybe he would have...or maybe not...I'll never know
By the time his rear end stopped moving I was anchored and saw the broadhead in the pocket between the neck and shoulder.
That arrow was off before he even got his bearings and I was kicking dirt and leaves...trying to back paddle up that tree! ;D
(To be perfectly honest...it scared the crap out of me )
I dont know how or why but he kinda back flipped, fell down, spun a near full circle, and exploded off the ground...back the way he came...causing me to nearly soil myself.
The noise he made going out of there was akin to a train falling down the side of a mountain.
I didn't even have to look for blood
Followed all the broken pine limbs and torn up pine needles till he hit the hardwoods where I had come in.
Then it was impossible
I couldn't see blood anywhere....even though I did see where he had run into the hardwood lot.
I called my son to bring the dog and in less than 20 minutes, Boomer was on it
150 yards from where I shot him...there he was
The only thing I hit was the heart and barely that....as can be seen in the picture.
I cut one main artery before hitting the heart.
Had I not hit the artery...this deer would have still been alive.
Stupid shot maybe ... but I got lucky
Sorry...only had time to take a few pictures and now I have to get this guy out of the car and hung up.
I'll get the pics I got up when I am through.
