Ok, I am not a crossbow hunter, and know nothing about them. I bought one for my dad for father's day, so that he could deer hunt with me this year, for the first time ever. I havent actually seen it, since I am still in Iraq. When I ordered the crossbow, I also got him one of the Barska 3 dot crossbow sights for it. The crossbow is an Eagle VI, from Sportsmans Guide ( red dot sight also from Sportsmans Guide). It came with a Weaver scope rail. I talked to my dad the other day, and he says the red dot sight that I got him will not fit, and it has an 1/8 inch gap on both sides of the rails. The sight also has the Weaver style base.
I am very experienced in mounting rifle scopes, but I dont know if there is something I am missing with this set up. I wish I could put my hands on it, but I cant right now. I figured it would be pretty straight forward, but then again I am a stranger to crossbows. As much as dad likes to believe he knows how to do these things, he really doesnt...he sure tries though.
Is there something I am missing here? Is there something else to mounting this sight on a crossbow that I dont know about? It seems it would be very straight forward since they both use the Weaver style set up. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am not familiar with that crossbow but my first thought is that the Weaver style base on the crossbow and the one on the scope are different sizes. For example: Barnett crossbows use a non-standard size scope mount so you have to buy their accessories.
I hope this helps and thank you for your service.

Sounds like a 3/8" base on the bow, much like is used on some older rimfire rifles. If that is the case, the sight you bought to fit the Weaver base won't fit. You could buy and adapter converting the 3/8" base to the 3/4" base but that may put the scope higher causing other problems. Guess I'd look for a base compatible scope.

The rings alone won't work, the red dot has integral 3/4" mount which cannot be removed, as I recall.

I looked up the bow on line. Hard to tell from pictures if base is removable, may not be. Finding a replacement would be a tall order since it's likely made outside US. Sportsmans guide states that the bow is sold with Nc Star red dot scope that fits 3/8'' and has 1" rings. Perhaps selling the Barska on e bay and getting that scope is an option. (It's a single dot, however).

Well, some of them are, but this one wasnt..I had to buy the red dot separate..guess i got the wrong one. I did find this, it converts a 3/8 rail into a weaver base...any thoughts?
