Vanetec Vanes

As some of you may have read in another post, I received some Vanetec vanes in 2" from the company as a sample to test. Anybody can get them so I figured what the heck, they are free. Well, I fletched them up last Fri. I shot Fri., Sat., and today, about 30 shots each arrow and I'm not happy.

I got my equipment out today and just reached in my arrow case and grabbed the Vanetec's to try the 4 fletch at 60 yds. in fairly strong angling head wind and a couple of Blazer 3 fletch arrows for comparison. I shot the Blazers and they were right on target as usual. I grabbed a Vanetec, nocked it up and shot it. OMG It went crazy. I thought it may have been me so I grabbed the other one and damn, it did the same thing.

I went to the neighbors field on the next block and picked them up. While walking back, I was going over both shots in my head trying to figure out if I did something and could not pinpoint anything I may have done wrong. So, I got to looking at the arrows to see if they may have gotten damaged somehow (these are the new ones picked up Fri.).

To my surprise and a certain level of disgust, the vanes had enough waves in them to surf. There was not a 1/4" of the vane that is straight or in line with the next section. The only thing I can figure is they DO NOT like Biscuits.

I have not found anything about this problem on their website but I do plan on notifying them about it. I can't complain too much as they were free, but I did expect more than 30 shots out of them.

They have already come off and been replaced with Blazers. As soon as my wife gets back from vacation with my good camera, I'm gonna take pictures to send to them also. I do know I will not shoot anything but Blazers from now on. I really expected more from a vane that claims to last as long as my bow. Just my .02.

P.S. They were the Vanetec VMax.

Here is the email I received from Vanetec this morning:

Brian,
I'm sorry to hear your so unhappy with VaneTec product. For a buscuit I would not usually recommend a HP vane. Our vanes are thinner than a Blazer but more consistant within that thickness. Our HP vanes are the same surface area as a Blazer 2" so in order for it to fly that much more erratic does not make a lot of sense unless there is another issue. I understand how you feel dissapointed based on what you have seen.

Thanks for the heads up on these vanes and your experiences with them.
I like to try new products myself but I am a skeptic on the claims most the manufactures boast about their products.

I hate to say it, but I must.

First of all, I will never run an arrow through a Bisquit ever again, except for a fishing arrow.

Second, Blazers are King! I've tested so many vanes in the last 2 years, and found out the hard way, that Blazers are the only vane I will use. Having said that, there are Feathers that are awesome too...I just love the Blazers..I believe they are idiot proof...which serves me well.

Use a drop away, with Blazers, and you will never wonder again which setup to use...but...that's just my .02...

And...stay away from those FOBs...LOL...just kidding, but really not...

Spiker, I will agree with most 100%. I have never even had an interest in FOBs. They always seemed like a gimmick to me. Blazers are king. But, what's up with the biscuit? I'm sure you probably have a post about it and the search function sucks, so if you could post a link to it I would appreciate it. I haven't not heard much bad about Biscuits and this was the first issue I've had with mine. Just interested in the opinions. There is a QAD in my future as soon as the financial situation at home improves.

The WB works fine, and is used by many. It is still one of the top rests out there.

I just can't stand the wear it puts on my fletching, or having to change the bristles yearly...you've seen how hard I am on targets...the bow takes as much of a beating.

Dropaway is the only way I'll go these days..but in the past I've taken deer with the WB...great stalking rest, but now, so is the Quad, and Ripcord.

I'm not real surprised to hear about the vane damage.
Most vanes wont stand up to the biscuit for long....which speaks to the exceptional quality and design of the blazers.

I understand that but, 30 shots is unreal. 4" Duravanes handles it quite well also, but I will be sticking with Blazers. I'm still gonna play with a 4 fletch set up though.
