My resolution is to start (did that) and finish 2009 with a recurve. I have taken fish, deer and pigs with the recurve but it has always been an elective rather than a requirement. Desire has always been the factor that has caused me to use the recurve but I have not given it the respect that it deserves...I think I always respected my ability to shoot well with it but I didn't trust it My honest opinion of the recurve was that it was something that could lose more deer than it could take. For reasons pertaining to distance or penetration, whatever I felt was far from confidence. Greg's turkey story (told to me today) was just another one of the things that gave support to my apprehensions However.... I have a few months under my belt with an x-tra 20# of draw weight which has releaved much of my apprehension (based on fact) about shooting low weights. I have added 10 yards of relative flat flight (20# X-tra) which now covers my entire average shot distance other than the rare outside shot at 40 yards. I know that I will clear a scapula...or at least I believe that I can ;D (That will be discovered soon) Anyway....
Whats yours?

Three turkeys and four deer with the Mustang ;D You're well on your way, OFB IF my shooting does not suffer too much, I'll work my way up to 60lbs. Right now, I'm at 54lb with the 82nd. I did start the year off right with my ram. I missed the turkey season altogether, too much going on. But I am keeping up with 3d shoots, so far three shoots. And crossing my fingers I can make it to NY in August for the Worlds. I plan on an absolute slaughterfest this upcoming deer season. Last year losses did nothing but piss me off and motivate me to improve my game. 7 deer limit in Ohio. I'm sure Greg could use some help in Westchester ;D

Kill Kill Kill did I mention kill. I also am going to try to take some animals with the recurve. I hope to get drawn for a Ky elk tag not really a resolution but killing one will be if I get drawn. The final one which is a long shot but possibe is to lead my team to victory in the big three contest.

My resolution is to go from end to end, soup to nuts, 100% all alone for at least one of my hunting areas. I've had the help from my buddy/mentor on all my hunts the past two years with scouting, picking a stand, dragging out a deer, dressing/butchering, all of it. I think he's taught me enough that on a new spot close to my house I want to do it all on my own. I want to prove to myself I've learned enough and be successful going solo at this spot. In fact, I want to have it dialed in well enough to take him out there and put him on a stand and on deer. I think it would be a good way to say thanks for all the help and patience he's given me the last two years.

trebono.....I remember being at your stage of the game and where you are now is one of the most rewarding stages that there can be IMO. No matter how old or young you are....it's just a magnificent feeling to have done it soup to nuts on your own for the first time. I dont remember it stopping at the first time though. In fact, that great feeling of accomplishment does stay with you for some time....at least till you are so good that the feat of accomplishment is no longer in question. This is the reason that I went back to the recurve. Traditional puts the challenge back and ups the odds of defeat back to where it was (or at least closer too) when you were green I think that once you master that, you have to go after the near impossible quarry to keep the challenge real and the satisfaction of accomplishment there. Years (if not a lifetime) of fun awaits

Trebono just going 100% alone is a great accomplishment. If you get something great but if it doesn't happen don't get discouraged. One thing I have found after 40+ years is that every trip is a learning experience. Main thing is to get out and have a good time. Be safe and good luck.

I've hunted off and on my whole life, but I've always had someone guiding me. I've had a passion for hunting since the first time I saw a deer. My Dad wasn't big into hunting, but fortunately I had a few uncles willing to take me along from time to time. Now that I'm older (33 now) and have met a good friend who is a life long hunter, and who has introduced me to bowhunting, I'm totally committed! Bowhunting has melded my engineering/mechanical/scientific back round with my rediscovered love for hunting and fired the biggest spark in my life aside from my family. My desire to "master" this on my own has been a goal that has improved other aspects of my life immensely. Besides, venison tastes almost as good as bacon! ;D
