This comes from the link BT posted. My thing is some of it sounds like he has cranial/rectal inversion but some of it makes sense. He seems to go about thing the long way around and too dang technical but this quoted part is really close to what my set up shoots with the two different arrows I use. My 2219's are estimated weight of 575 and they shoot 240 chrono'd and my 2413's are estimated 474 and chrono 275. I agree with BT on Ashby's broadhead assessment when talking about newer model bows. I think a lot of this is just antiquated.
*Estimated weight is from Easton shaft selector that I used to have on my puter that gave full dressed shaft weight.
I am gonna weight both arrows though because I reading another post on here somewhere and looking at Easton's new shaft selector on their website and I have changed to Blazers instead of stock Easton 4" vanes so I may be a little of on my weight and I am gonna rechrono both arrows as soon as I get a chance. I think I am at less weight and a little more speed. It's not something I'm really worried about but just curious. It still takes two hand with the target laying down to pull them from a Black Hole. LOL

Here's an interesting update where Ashby ranks what he thinks is most important for penetration. www.tradgang.com/ashby/2007update8.pdfNotice that arrow mass is at the bottom of list, but he states that it jumps nearly to the top when heavy bone is hit.

Like I said (many times before)....Ashby is today saying what I have said for twenty some odd years. Prior to this about face, Ashby's list was an inversion of the most current revised report. While I am all about design for the worse case scenario when it pertains to the broadhead, The trade offs of designing the entire system toward that end (unless absolutely necessary) are too extreme. IMO

IMO I pretty much DO agree with Ashby EXCEPT the arrow weight. I'm really having a hard time swallowing the fact that I'll be shooting arrows that are about 12 gpp. If I hit 190fps, it'll be a miracle ;D I mean if I hit a scapula and I get enough penetration to make a kill it might be worth it, but I remain skeptical. I'm really thinking 8-10gpp will maximize a compound bows KE and momentum and not kill trajectory too badly.
