I 've heard some controversy on straight vs. helical fletching with broadheads. What are your thoughts on it if you have any? I'm talking with feathers mostly, but feel free to post any experience you've had with vanes as well.

I shoot straight 4 fletch out of the compounds and helical off the recurve. I have tried straight fletch w/o an offset with 3 fletch but I have to have 2degree's for good flight. At one time I shot 3 2.5" fletch at 20yard indoor and it was good but I doubt a fixed head would have done as well off that same arrow

I shoot 3, 3" Duravanes with a left offset. they stabilize my arrows perfectly with any head I shoot out to any range I have shot. I believe that a longer fletch or one with more helical may stabilize an arrow a bit better by chance you have a poor release.

Do you hunt, or just shoot indoors where there is no wind? I tried going with shorter fletch, straight, light tips - all thinking of speed. Indoors, this type of setup shot great! I had no troubles with it at all. Outside, no issues if the wind was not blowing. Once the wind blew a bit, I thought I might increase the offset to help stablize the arrow... I found that at speeds over 300 fps I was getting a ton of noise from the fletching on the arrow if I put in much offset. (Maybe you other folks have not had issues, I did. I don't like arrow noise.) So, I went longer fletching - 4 inch - heavier tips for better FOC, and accept the slightly slower speeds. I can now hold a little more offset and add back helical to help out. Result: The wind has to be blowing pretty good to screw up the shot! I shoot fixed blade Turbo tips - which is now changed slightly and called the Blitz: www.rockymtbroadheads.com/broadhead_blitz.htmlOn trad arrows, 5 inch fletch, as much offset as the arrow diameter will allow, with helical. Call me a control freak!

I shoot Blazers in a Left Helical...but....I've come to believe that a 4" helical feather is the most stable up to 30 yds. I just don't like the speed loss out at that range, and farther, so I stick with the Blazers..
