I have many guns in many calibers.I do some gun smithing but mostly do bluing.Old farms (road ne'er my house BLUEMAN .I shoot any gun I take deer hunting EVERY YEAR before I use it that year.I like a gun(slug or muzzle loader that will shoot an inch at 50 yards.I keep the test target with the year on it to compare with the year before.I usually only need to fire one round.Today I shot my favorite 7mm mag. at 50 yards and it shot 10 in. high and 8 in. to the right. It's makeing me nuts at $1.25 a POP.I figured it was the scope because it shoots erratic. With a new scope it was the same.I checked all scope mounts and the stock bolts .Tonight I re- crowned the barrel on my lathe because I noticed a very small mark on the crown I will shoot it tomorrow to see if that helps .I will not hunt with a weapon that I don't have 100% confidence in. THE POINT I AM TRYING TO MAKE IS JUST BECAUSE IT SHOT GOOD LAST YEAR DON'T TAKE A CHANCE OF BLOWING A SHOT AT A DEER!!!!!!!!!!THIS YEAR.

Re crowning the barrel on your lathe? damn OFB...your pretty sophisticated out there.. Are you using hand loads, or factory? I'm assuming hand loads, in which case you might want to check your reloading equipment as well...JMHO...

The gun loves cheep Rem.150 core-lokt bullets. The 7mm mag is the only gun I don't reload for.In theory one box should be good for 20 deer ;D. The original stock was replaced with a plastic one that I had a 308 bull barrel in.The 7mm floats except I have somthing at the tip for the barrel to rest on.I will be playing with it to day and if not 100% happy pull out the 243,or 30-30

Royden you hit it on the head.Last year I built up a peace on the end of the plastic stock just to put a little pressure on the barrel at the end of the stock.Last year it shot normal. This year and I don't know why it had problems. I can see it with a wood stock but not plastic. After a scope change,re crown and over a box of ammo it shoots like it should.Out of this I got 5 trips down the hill to my 50 yd range,a nice pile of 7mm mag brass and one sore shoulder ;D

I was thinking $1.25 was spendy for reloads unless shooting accubond bullets (which are worth it) ... glad you only had to shoot one box ... my old o3-A3 drove me nuts after I restocked it with a walnut stock that I didn't varnish good enough ... when wet it would shoot erratic ... course I rarely stay dry hunting and I rarely get wet sighting in
