What'cha puttin it on??? I might have an elk antler I could part with - I'll have to see what I've got. A pal of mine dropped me some antlers (sheds, nothing big) a couple weeks back for limb tips. Might have something that'd work for you if you are interested.

Here's what I'm making... I use a 4 pointer, cut it at the first junction from the base, then cut off 1 tine from the longest piece that includes the main beam, then cut that longest piece to the appropriate length, spin it 180 degrees and test fit, when the fit is correct, I drill the butt ends 2 1/2" and insert a piece of 5/16" all thread approx. 5" long with epoxy joining both pieces and the cover the seam with snakeskin to match the customers bow, I round off/blend in where I cut off the tine and finish the antler to the bows color.... then I take a compound quiver hood, and the arrow retainer and mount them to the antler with machine screws... then take both back off and cover the hood with the desired fur,,, and the retainer with either snakeskin or leather.... re-mount them with the machine screws, then make the carry strap to appropriate length from the desired leather and secure the strap with rawhide laces... I also make a small skinner from a file with an antler handle that fits into the front of the strap so it will be real handy.... and that's it... pretty easy to do and looks and carries great.......Steve

SMJ, Thanks for the offer of the Elk antler...... but what I need for this has to be from a mule deer, it doesn't have to be a shed about any mid size 4 pointer will work, I don't need the burr either, but if you guys might have a pair of antlers I'd be interested in purchasing them both, I'm not perfect , and have been known to screw up once in a while,lol,lol... so let me know..... this is for a customer so just let me know what you have and what you want for it/them, and we'll go from there....Thanks,Steve

Those look pretty good to me!, I'm thinking the middle one in the bottom pic.. but.. I use a lot of antler for various projects and would be interested in all of them if you would be inclined to get rid of all 3 pieces.... interested in a trade?... I'll make you a nice custom carbon steel/antler knife and sheath for them........Let me know, and thanks!...Steve

SWEET! sure I'll send 'em to you ... I'm not sure they are that fancy though; but if you insist I won't refuse The middle one bottom pic is the same antler as the first pic, the left one bottom pic is the same as the second pic. I'll get 'em in a box

Hey royden.... finished the knife! ... first though....when you told me you wanted it for your daughter , it set me thinking... I have two of my own, and I love them more than anything in this world...... and when I contemplated building this knife,I kept thinking about that and I just couldn't do something plain, so here it is... the blade is 4 1/2" long and 3/16" thick and made from a nicolson file that I've had and used for probably 20 years... the handle is from a whitetail that I shot last fall after he walked clear across a 40 acre field and turned broadside right in front of me at 30 yds. .. I was sitting against a fence post taking a smoke break from still hunting.... and there wasn't a stitch of cover between us... a definate gift from above!....... so here is something special for that little one of yours to look forward to.... You know.. to you they may just be antlers laying around... but to me they are much more.. I put smiles on peoples faces with stuff like that, and that to me that is one heck of a reason to get up in the morning!..... Thanks for letting me build this knife for her!......Steve
