Gonna cook up these "land fish" tonight. Little flour, butter, ranch dressing or hot sauce and a cold beer.

Land fish I love it! HAH! Where did ya find most of those? IE under a elm tree etc.

Actually, they were in pretty dry, flat areas that have been flooded in the past. They were near creeks and out in the sunny patches. When I wandered off into the shaded areas where there were dead elms, I found very few.

I have never seen these in person but many times in photo's. I'll never have one I guess because I just dont trust myself to any knowledge aside from first hand. Pictures are great but ...... Good deal if your able

BT, once you find one or see one, they are almost impossible to mistake for anything else. They look, feel and smell like no other mushroom. (Actually, they are a truffle) The best way is to go with someone who knows already, as you say.
