Tragic story. Accidents do happen but they don't have to. Everybody be careful to not let your guard down, no matter what side of the gun you are on. As horrible as it sounds I would rather be the boy than the father. My prayers are with him and his family.

This story is posted on a local board. My comment is what we stress to the kids in Hunter Ed - BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND BEYOND.
No excuse or explanation can be made for shooting someone.

You are correct azslim. This gets me madder than hell. How the heck do you mistake your son for a turkey!! My god, I thank god that I never encountered this before...I'm sorry...I cannot believe that he shot his son....thought he was a turkey? What else could it have been if he didn't see it enough to identify it? A deer? A bear? I mean, what was he aiming at...was it a neck shot? Was he aiming center mass? NOOOOO!!!! HE WAS SHOOTING AT MOVING BRUSH!!!!!!!!!! He would be doing time if I was the judge!! Bast@rd!! Guys like this are my worst nightmare...

Spiker you hit it on the head .How can you shoot a person when hunting .The people who do it are shooting at movement and have the mentality of "I HAVE TO GET ONE" ::)A few years ago we had a guy shot with an arrow at very close range.I think it was in CT but that doesn't matter. It was his hunting partner.I dont remember if he died or not.It was almost dark when he was shot in the chest .NO EXCUSE!!!! These things are tragic and ruin many lives. We had a game warden killed in CT a few years ago.He was walking across a field just before dark. The guy that shot him was a sniper in the military. Then we had a jogger and a lady hanging out her laundry killed

Here we are, trying to learn the best angles of penetration. Going over shot, no shot.....and many other things like range, where the vitals are...etc...etc... And then this.... I realize even more so now what a great site this is ...that hunters can gain the valuable knowledge that they need...and share the knowledge that they already have, so we can all be safer, and more aware in the field.... Oh, and did I mention shot placement?

This will be brought up tonight in the Hunter Ed class, especially because turkey season is starting up out here.

I don't know the circumstances but I honestly can not see how anyone that is responsible could accidently mistake a human being as a deer or turkey. I just can't imagine how this is possible. Regardless of that this man has already paid a dear price. Unless you have done it no one can imagine the burden it is on ones soul to take a human life. In this case it is his own child.
