I have never fooled with a crossbow before and I got my first one the other day. A friend of myne gave me a jennings devastator. I know it is old but hey it was free. I would like to get it up and running again. It needs a new string and cable. I beleive it is a 26 inch string. His dog chewed the string and nicked the cable. Man you talk about heavy. This thing is a beast. It has a scope rail and a tasco red dot scope that still works. I would like to make it work, even if it is just to goof off a little. Does anyone know anything about them??? Any info would be greatfull. The sticker that the specs are written on has been taken off so I really know nothing about this crossbow. All I know is that the string is the shorter version. I have seen 44 inch and 26 inch strings. My cable has the metal things to hold the tring on and they are not that far apart. But hey who knows, they might be wrong to.

The tear drop's are old stuff and if you have spec's then go with the shorter of the two because that is what you would have with tear drops. Being that as it may..... I would go to the bear/Jennings site and give them the model/serial number to work with and ask them for the string length. That's the safe bet and I would want to play it safe The cables seem to last forever but check for fraying around the tear drops and in the cams where they are fashioned into Tee bars (more than likely) If these cables have double tear drops then you just lucked out! You can change strings without a press Simply cock the bow slightly and have someone slip the new string on the otherside of the tear drops and then let down. Then cock on the new string and remove the old one. Once that is done get some rail lube so that you dont burn out that new string Check the safety mechanism to make sure that it is in good working order. Do you have the cocking rope?. Congratulations on a great deal (hopefully:) )

I dont know much about these things at all. The sticker with the model # and all the info is not there. It should be on the limb. I havent a clue what I have here. The cable does have double tear drops. The only thing that bothers me is that a peice of the teardrop against the cable has cracked off like it was brittle. I am not sure if this happend when the dog chewed through the string and when it released it slammed into somthing or what. I will post a picture for you to see what I am talking about. My friend has a string jig and he can probably make me another string. So I guess I really might need a new cable. Like I said I will post a picture of the teardrop and the nick in the cable to show you what I am talking about, and if I should be worried or not. What is the odding rope???

The censor was working so I corrected it The cocking devise was what I was referring to. If the tear drop is busted watch out and make (or buy) a new cable.
