we've been seeing BT's pics on shot angles at different heights and ranges. remember them when setting up a stand. I see WAY to many people setting up 10yds from the trail trying to make for an easy shot. they get their shot and hit where they were aiming and wonder why they lost the deer. they only got one lung! when going 15-20' up a tree I always try and set up at least 20yds off the trail. If I go higher then I try to get it back farther from the trail. This also makes you almost undetectable by the deer. with trad gear I am shooting 20yds max. I put my stands about 15' up. if I went higher my shot placement would have to be much better to get both lungs.

This is a very worthwhile issue to rehash if anyone wants to debate it

I hope people are reading these and getting something out of them. If you are post a few tips of your own. I figure maybe someone else can learn from my mistakes, maybe I can learn from yours.
A deer cart, get one. by far the best(yes by far the best) investment I have ever made. It makes getting a deer out so easy. even over dificult terrain. with 2 people it is a breeze even for the buggest deer in the toughest spots. by yourself it's great to. sometimes the hardest part is getting a deer into the truck by yourself. with a cart i just rest the handle on the tailgate and lift from the other end. it reduces the weight you have to lift and then all you do is push forward and slide it in deer and all.
If the cart is out of your price range or you don't shoot enough deer to justify the cost, or maybe the terain is way to thick..........I have a trick. You really need a buddy for this one, but it saves a lot of work. I took an 8'x6' poly tarp and 2 10' lengths of thick walled 2" PVC pipe. using parachute cord I made a stretcher. now just load up the deer and the 2 of you can walk it out, you can even put the ends over your shoulders if you want. Much easier than dragging and keeps the meat cleaner.

I have used plastic coated tarp to drag deer out before but that requires that I either pack it in or make a trip out to get it. I am far to lazy I need a way to get it out without having to come out

The kids....riggght Those would be the kids that are over at their Friends house or the kids telling their mom to tell me they are at their friends house? ;D I had the younger boy try and help me once and I ended up throwing it over my shoulder after the first few yards. Kids just cant manage that strength thing yet They have it....just don't know how to use it.

I have a tip for you guys. Here in delaware we have alot of state game lands that are large tracts of land. The state does not let you use and atv or anything on them. It can be avery long walk down all of those dirt roades that lead to the back of the property where no one else wants to walk. I have and old mountain bike I have sanded down and spray painted flat black. I then zip tied camo burlap and camo netting to it. I left the front reflector and the rear reflector on so I can find it in the dark with my flash light.I placed a gun rack on the handle bars for carrying my gun or bow. It works great. Right now I carry my climbing stand on my back but my friend is welding a bracket to attach my deer cart to the bike also. This way I can put my climber on it. I am not sure if I will be able to carry a deer on it while peddling but I could probably strap the bike to it also and pull the whole mess out of the place. If you want I can post some pic's of it tomarrow. It's kinda like my dream bike when I was a kid. But mom and dad wouldnt let me do that to my bike until I was older. Man it would have been easier to shoot the doves of the wires and the rabbits in the yards in the development back then. And I would have looked cool to boot!!!

Thats a good way to lose a bike ;D I'd lay the thing down and that would be that last time I'd ever see it again. Good idea though. I know there are a number of people here who utilize a bike for their hunting.

Only if you hunt with a friend will this work but here it goes.
My dad showed me that when you have a deer down to cut a 2" to 3" diameter piece of tree. preferably dead and still standing, about 4 to 6 feel long. Center it on the head of the deer and then tie it on. once that is done one of you on each side and raise it only to your hips. lean into it and away you go for a long as you can or want to. If it is a buck it keeps the horns from grabing the ground and fetching you up. I was suprised at how well it worked and my Dad was 50 + year old at the time he showed me this one.
