What do you know about this area, BT, as far as bear? I have a friend that bought a cabin on a couple acres of land just north of Moosehead lake. It's bordering thousands of acres of logging company land. It's about a 10hr ride from here.

I know that you should take me with you Great bear area! Baiting is legal and very productive but at around this time of year you can simply go into the logged area's of clear cut and walk the roads where the blueberries are coming up. If you put in the walking time you will most definitely see bear. It used to be that all you had to do was register at a check station before entering the logging area's. Don't know for sure about that now but I am sure it is easy enough to find plenty of places. You might also try baiting with a tag team approach where four parties could spend 4 weekends baiting up an area before season and then go as a group. alot of work and I would recommend my first suggestion first rather than my last.

They just recently bought the place. As in the last week. So whatever comes out of it would probably be next season. I do know it's a 2 floor cabin with an open interior. No running water or plumbing which is no big deal to me.
It's actually a friend of mine's sister that bought the place. I'm sure we may be able to set something up next year. They're good people.

Stop by on the way up. BT Review members are always welcome at the Tautog house. By the way...a honey burn is excellent for bear....build a SMALL fire and add twigs and a few pieces of wood until you have coals. MAKE SURE you clean out a large area around wher your fire will be, say 6-8 ft in diameter. When you have a HOT bed of coals, dump a quart or two of honey on them, and go climb yo' tree....about 15 yards offside and downwind of where you expect the bear to enter. Some guys have said they've seen them in less than 2 hours using the burn.
