For those in the Northern States and Provinces, deer biology expert Charles Alsheimer ( www.charliealsheimer.com ) is saying that the 3 main phases of the rut will be as follows because of the way the full moon falls this year: Seeking- 11/2 - 11/8 Chasing- 11/9 - 11/12 Breeding- 11/13 - 11/24 His opinion is that the seeking and chasing times are the best times to be in the woods. As for myself, I generally plan my trip North to New York for the second week of November, making sure that I am in the woods and ready to sit all day on 11/10. For me and the fellows that hunt the area nearby, this day has been the best day for action over the years. One year, six hunters on the property took 5 bucks on 11/10, including one that scored well into the 140s! Other than the young bucks that don't know what they are doing, has anyone seen any true rutting behavior yet?

Dad saw a 6 pointer following every single move a doe made the other day. Seen some sparring. Rubs and scrapes just about everywhere. That table seems to show exactly what I usually see around here. 11-8 is when I fist saw chasing the past 2 years. I shot my buck last year in IL on 11-15 and the doe he was with was standing for him when I took him.
