Well, In hunting situations.... Had 3 teen poachers open up on me with 12 ga. rem. 1100's with slugs and extended mags at the same time when I was 15 foot up in my stand, from about 125yds...jumped out and hid behind the tree..... cops caught them and took them home to their parents..... same three kids pinned my neighbor down the same way a few days later......again.. taken home..... the next time I was with my then 11 year old son Lance across the field from the previous incident... high powered rifles this time.....first bullet hit 6" above our heads......it was first day of gun season... shoved Lance behind a log and started shooting back......never happened again there... seems a police investigation into drug dealers and their kids are more important than the people they are supposed to protect!... last year on public ground here I was drawn upon by 2 fellas with shotguns about 75 yds. away.. I was in my ghillie with hunter orange on stillhunting a transition area.. they were heading to their spots.....I dropped my bow and turned, back facing them with hands up... heard a whistle and they were on their way... I followed/watched them fellas the rest of the day... never knew I was there.. saw lots of deer too.. made sure they didn't.... never saw either of them again....... and as far as non hunting.....Lived with a 5'11" 135# true blonde stripper with DD's for 4 years that had a liking for the nose candy.and a "boss" that liked 1911's, money, and didn't like hearing "NO"..... enough said? ..... the only time I've ever been hit though, it wasn't with a bullit or an arrow...... it was with a model rocket... in the chest at about 50'.. on purpose.. I was 13 and so was he.....he also earned the name "zebra" that day, those little metal rods are pretty tough, and leave nice big painful welts, but the weirdest was an accident....an aircraft carrier ,a landing F-14, sparrow missle came loose and hit the side of the ship...I was on the other side of the hull, 3 ft. away sitting on the throne... if it had exploded I would be dead....

Early in my hunting career I had a few shot from other hunters patter down on my hat, sort of normal I guess One day I was jogging through the desert in AZ and I heard pops and whizzing. I was down range from the old dump site and someone was taking their target practice that day. Fortunately they were hitting the bank and bouncing over me. I jogged out of the wash and I think the shooters were more nervous than I was when they saw me. ;D Similar thing happened down range of the pistol targets we kept where I lived and worked. The boss put a couple .357's in the dirt 20-30 yards in front of me while I was rabbit hunting in a wash 50-100 yards down range. I turned around and cleared the area.

About 30 years ago I was in Wyoming hunting mule deer with a friend. We were in my wagoneer driving to a hunting site. Unknown to me the friend had the barrel of his rifle resting on his foot, loaded, finger on the trigger, safety off. A really big buck jumped in front of us and he panic and pulled the trigger. Missed his toes by a hair and the same for the tramsmission in my car. I started thinking what it the gun had been resting on his lap with the barrel pointed in my direction. Never went hunting with this "friend" again. Ghost HOLY SMOKES....... I hope you had a clean pair of underwear to put on.

I can't beleive how many people have had close calls out in the feild. I guess I have been lucky. I truly thought most hunters are ethical and careful out in the field. Of course I am seldom on public land. But holy cow guys I'm so glad none of those stories have a sad/tragic ending.

I've been lucky to hunt private land as well...but...it does seem like a lot of these accidents are caused by acquaintances as well...
