Lot's of crazy stories here....wow...I must live a sheltered life... Thank god for my dad, and his safety training. I believe he had even thrown some relatives out of deer camp when I was young, just because they had left a gun loaded in the house, or shot at tails in the woods. Luckily, I've never been shot at by strangers either...thank god none of you were hurt!! Same here Spiker, never been in the line of fire. My brother did pop my sister in the backside with his BB gun once. He lost his BB gun and never got it back

I was nearly shot twice in the field...
First time I was 13 or 14 out hunting rabbits with my old bolt action .20 gauge. In a field that was mostly grass and brush extending north and south I was at the south end heading north and two other older guys were at the north end heading south. A rabbit jumped up between us and somehow I knew I was in trouble! There was one large white oak tree just a few steps to my left, I jumped behind the tree. Pellets slammed into the tree just a few moments later. I don't know if it was intentional or just stupidity. I must admit, I considered shooting back, but common sense won out for me. I waited for them to move off then went the other way.
Second time I had taken a pal of mine out rabbit hunting and gave him a shotgun while I kept my .22 rifle. At one point, we were walking up a trail and I got a bad feeling. I looked over my shoulder and he was walking with the shotgun swinging right to left and back tracking right across my back. His finger was in inside the trigger guard. I told him to safe the weapon and he got mad at me, told me the safety was on. I said I didn't care, point the shotgun to the side, or down, not at my back. I turned away from him and BOOM, the a bush to my left exploded. I extended my arm and my hand was in the center of where the shot passed. I looked at him, his face was pasty white and he looked at me saying "I thought the safety was on..." I let him lead the way back to the car.

Like most kids they think nothing can happen to them.If we get through those early years we are usely ok.I had a Springfield 45-70 trapdoor that I got for $15.00.I found out a 3" .410 shell would fit fairly good.My buddies were hiding by the side of our garage lighting firecrackers and shooting the .410.Tom wanted to hold it so I let him.Next thing I know there is a 6 inch hole in the ground inches from my foot.God was looking out for us that day. !967 Vietnam has a way of makeing you a little jumpy.Lots of Russian and Chinese 120-140 MM rockets. They get you thinking ;D. In 1976 I was building my house by myself.I was on the roof in the fall.I live 500 ft back in, with woods all around.I herd the sound of a 22 auto that was coming from a little hill 100 yds from where I was. The bullets were ripping through the tree 15 feet from me.I hit the deck and started yelling .The shooting stopped and I went back to work.I think it was a kid shooting bottles or squirrels

About 30 years ago I was in Wyoming hunting mule deer with a friend. We were in my wagoneer driving to a hunting site. Unknown to me the friend had the barrel of his rifle resting on his foot, loaded, finger on the trigger, safety off. A really big buck jumped in front of us and he panic and pulled the trigger. Missed his toes by a hair and the same for the tramsmission in my car. I started thinking what if the gun had been resting on his lap with the barrel pointed in my direction. Never went hunting with this "friend" again. Ghost
