Looks like we had a fatatility here in NY. This story really got to me. I just read it aloud to Ray and almost couldn't get the words out.
Here is the story froma kid that was hunting with the guy who got shot . Pulled this from another fourm
know i havent been on here nearly as much as i used to be but i felt i should share my story of a great friend to you all. on 12-1-07 me and 4 friends met at a dinner for breakfast before going hunting. we talked and all had a good time. after we ate we went to the vehicles and decided which land we would hunt on. then we drove to the spot and decided we would do a drive. me and one guy would sit while the other 3 walked toward us pushing the deer.
after geting all situated we radioed to eachother that they would start walking toward us. my friend brandon was in the creek( which was in a gully) then another guy above him about 100 yards, and finally the last guy towards the top of the hill. they continued our way. i then saw another hunter on the other side of the gully. i radioed and told them all about the guy.then about 15 minutes later when a shot rang through the woods about 100 yards from me. i got worried because i had an awful feeling in my stomach. we radioed our friend brandon in the creek for 10 minutes without an answer. since i was the closest to him i said on the radio that i would walk down the side hill and look up the creek to see if i could see him. as i stood up i hear " oh my god!" at that point i knew exactly what happen. i got on the radio and yelled that i think he has been shot" then i scream up the hill to my other friend who is like 30 to get down here. i start to panic and not wanting to face my friend down the hill i walked around scared trying to find my other bddy who was all the way up the hill. they told someone to call 911 and i again paniced and had no clue the road or anything of where we were. but the friend in the top of the woods ended up calling. but it didnt matter. shortly after that. my buddy that was down in the woods with the shot friend said he was gone. he was struck in the back of the neck with a 30-06.
i was told to go to the trucks until the EMS and troopers arrived. they did a full investigation and the shooter and his buddy turned themselves in without any conserversy. i never felt i would feel the way i do but i feel sympathy for the shooter. even though he just shot my friend. it is not clear why yet but we are pretty sure it was a hear and see movement shot which every good hunter knows is a terrible thing to do. the only good part of this is he did not suffer at all. the investigation is not complete but after getting statements from everyone they have a good feeling for what happened.
* brandon and the rest of us were wearing blaze orange from the waist up. he also had a blaze orange hat on
brandon was 30 years old is survived by his pregnant wife, 8 month old daughter, and 7 year old boy. i hope everyone learns a valuable lesson from all of this and at 16 years old my life is changed forever, i do see myself hunting next year but i am done for this year. i will truely miss my good friend brandon. if thier was any chance for a perfect person as far as polite, kind, and all around a great person, he would be it. it is a shame that it had to happen to such a great person.
