Yesterday was out shotgun/rifle opener. I get into my honey hole in the state forest I hunt 1/2 hour before light. I was seeing deer pretty much all day, with no shot oppurtunities. A little after 3, I have a big doe come out directly across from me, and angle down into a thicket. I would have normally had a shot as soon as she walked out, but I can't believe how many leaves are still on the trees. She was angling down, and away from me. As she is walking throught the Hemlock thicket, I keep getting glimpses of her in my scope. at about 60 or 65 yards she stops, and I have about a 10 inch opening, and I can clearly see her shoulder, and behind it. I put the cross hairs behind the shoulder, and touch one off. At the shot, 2 other deer explode from the thicket, in the opposite direction, and the deer I shot at goes the other way. She took off out of sight at a run, acting totally unhit. WTF!!!! I go down to where she was standing, and nothing, no blood, no hair. I start walking in the direction she ran, and all of a sudden i see hair, and a bucket full of blood on the ground, and on the trees. Ok...i feel better, I did hit her. I misjudged where she was standing by about 15 feet. I followed a blood trail Stevie Wonder could follow for about 40 or 45 yards, and there is my deer. Except, instead of a mature doe, it is a little skipper. I was sick. I can't believe I shot the wrong deer! I never saw the other 2 deer sneak into the draw I was hunting
Well...anyway, I got some good eating, and it was an easy drag...lol.
Man do those Lightfield Hybrid EXP's make a hole! I can't believe how far this little skipper went with a hole that size through the heart and both lungs!
On another not, my friend Matt shot a gorgeous 9 point, 188 pound field dressed buck yesterday morning.
Here are some pics. His buck makes my skip look even smaller!
