Well, 5:00p.m. and we're back from the bunnyhunt to the farm.It was a WHOLE lot of fun! I haven't done that since I was a teenager! A great thank you to StillLearnin' for taggin' along and providing the comic relief!
:-*oh yeah, and his truck fro transportation too!
It was -21deg. at 10:00 this moning but no wind and clear blue skies...looked like a good day. Bruce was all ready to go when I arrived, so only took a minute to load my gear. We landed at the farm after much chatter on the way at around 11.
After gearing up and strapping on the shoes we were off! Keep in mind I had planned on cutting some saplings for bow wood too. That would come later.
I took the Jatoba bow that I finished last summer(47# at 27 in. draw with the bunnybusters I made and my self-made backquiver. The BBO isn't ready yet.
Bruce told me to take a pose for the camera on the 'Hay Road'
Only a couple of steps further and to the RIGHT, sitting under a stump I spotted a bunny soaking in the sun about 5 yards away. Bruce was a bit behind, so I took the shot. MISS!
I hit my coat with the bowstring, but sure gave the bunny a scare!
HE took off and I retreived my arrow. Bruce and I set off to try and track him down. I did see him one more time, but he was too far away.
Remember, we still have to cut wood!
This area was alive with bunny trails and tracks, but it was also choked with alder thickets that Bruce actually got tangled up in and couldn't get out!hehehe.
We crisscrossed the area, but didn't see anymore, so we killed a virtical log instead! We were both pretty close, but I bounced a shaft off that sucker right in the middle about 12 yards out
! Bruce missed to the left. TWICE!
We were wearing out fast and time was running short, so we made our way back to the truck. I wanted to hunt abit more, so Bruce moved the truck down the road and met up with me on the SkiDoo trail so we could light a lunch fire.
Bruce only brought one sandwich and was eating it cold since he was so hungry..."That's no way to eat a sandwich in the woods"
says I....You gotta have a stick to cook with...
Stubborn as he is, after I'm moaning with delight about how good a warm toasted sandwich is with smoke flavour, he decided he would use my stick! Bugger! Anyhow, I was good and only had 2 sandwiches-2 granola bars - 3 hunks of cheese and a good cupa tea!
Yummy! I forgot how good things taste in the woods!
After the fire burned down abit, I got thinkin'...."BRUCE"! Go over there and take a picture of my bow in that tree!" I musta spoke abit sharp(I was only thinkin' out load) cuz he jumped to his feet, searching for the camera "YESSIR" Right away SIR! of course he was laughing the whole time.
Sorry, somehow we forgot to take a pic of Bruce with his bow...
Well, it was now time to put out the fire, gather things up and head home. it was a great day in my books and I was glad that Bruce was there to share it. I hope he enjoyed himself too!
BTW, we never got around to cutting any wood, so we'll just have to go back again! Dang!
